Zen Robbi front man Michael De La Torre, known to most as “Mic Dangerously”, isn’t your everyday lead singer/ guitarist. He is one of the most respected and talented artists in the Long Beach/LA music scene today. Growing up on the east side of LA, Mic D started out as a self taught young man on a mission, learning his first chords on a guitar his mother picked up for his father on a trip to Tijuana. With hours of practice and the need to always be creating and performing, Mic started his first band with a neighbor at the ripe age of 12. Listening to early punk rock, hip-hop, blues, jazz, funk and soul is what lead Mic Dangerously to continue his quest for musical greatness. After a couple years and countless hours “rocking out” the garage, Mic D started regularly attending the Berkelee Summer music program held each year at Claremont College. Playing and studying music with young adults from all over the United States and abroad at these summer music programs gave Mic the opportunity to meet some of his closest lifelong friends, learn his way around the recording studio and encouraged him to start his first serious project with bassist Timmy “Too Tall”, Zen Robbi. While continuing to play with Zen Robbi throughout his late teens and into his early twenties, Mic Dangerously attended and graduated from Cal State University Long Beach with a degree in communications with an emphasis on public speech. In the middle of his college years, Mic took a much-needed hiatus to incorporate the Audio Engineering program held at The Musician’s Institute (MI) in Hollywood. It was here that Mic was introduced to one of the best up and coming progressive drummers in all the land, Scotty “Ghostrider” Wittenberg (current Zen Robbi drummer), and gain the title of Certified Audio Engineer. Since the creation of Zen Robbi in his mid teens, Mic has played hundreds of shows with the band as well as perfecting his solo acoustic performances with a residency at famed Long Beach local hotspot, DiPiazza. These performances, dedication to mastering his craft and working in the studio with some of today’s biggest up and coming bands has garnered Mic Dangerously the utmost respect and recognition of his closest peers, the LA/Long Beach music scene and music fans everywhere. This young man’s continuous drive to be the best and push the music to the next level is what sets Mic D apart from the crowd, in turn bringing Zen Robbi to the forefront of superstardom.
